Oops. :036:
Was in a book shop and thought i'd see what their dog behaviour books were like, so asked where they'd be, and the lady helping asked if i was a fan of the dog whisperer. :058: i quite politely told her "no, i don't agree with the methods used." When a woman behind me said "well it worked wonders on my dog, he was very stressed and he's great now." :058: I was very polite to her face, and then when i left the shop launched into a rant at my poor friend about how beating children also makes them well behaved, but it doesn't make it right. :012:
ARGHHHH!:058::058::058:

OH bought me a book by the 'dog whisperer (CM)' and couldnt understand why I wasnt all that impressed- a little explaination ( ok 1/2 hour of nagging!:067:) later and he could see my point, unfortunately people still follow his and other methods like this because they havent been told otherwise.
I wouldnt be beating my head against a brick wall over this Beth, I would be patting myself on the back for showing restraint and planning my speach for next time I meet one of these poor mis-guided out of touch idiots in the future- then heading home to my well ( hopefully one day) adjusted doglet(S) and having a well deserved :075:

Yeah - one of the the dog walkers in the woods we walk in was recommending to another owner using a Rattle Bottle to stop her Weimeraner scavenging and poo eating... I piped in that it really wasn't a great way to go about it and her response was "Well that's what my trainer got me using for my dog and it's been great!!" - so I just said that it can work, but can very easily backfire, so not a great idea to recommend to people who aren't being guided on a 1:1 basis... There was no way I was gonna stop her thinking the rattle bottle was her saviour, but at least I should have stopped her recommending it to everyone else!!!! I feel sorry for her poor dog... and hope she never decides to use the bottle to stop his barking at kids (he barks at them cos he's scared of them, so what's the bottle going to add to this equation???)....
I think you were very restrained, myself - whenever I have anyone recommend stuff like that I launch into how badly my Dad's dog was affected by the stupid puppy class who used such methods (and paint the poor dog as a devil incarnate half the time!!!).... :076:
