As you mostly know I feed my dogs a non commercial diet. They have homemade biscuits and treats and until recently I've feed cooked mince from the pet shop.
I've started feeding them "stews" made from meat (beef, liver, heart etc) with carrots, potato, spinach, greens, cabbage, beansprouts etc. But are they getting the "right" nutrients on this, or would they need to have vitamins as well?????

um tricky one as not sure what the cooking process would kill off....do you need to cook the mince? My first thought would be - do the minces contain bone? if not i would look at adding egg shell or something else to get some calcium into their diet.

It's not mince that they have anymore - it's liver, heart and beef, bought from the supermarket.... so all human grade. Good point about the egg shells, I could break a whole egg into their bowls shell and all......

No more than 3 eggs per week though I would have said or raw chicken wings. I add wheatgerm, bran, parsley, nettles, a small amount of cod liver oil and more flaxseed oil. Little 'un also gets a half kelp tablet a day too.

Link to a site that talks about a home-prepared diet for dogs....

http://www.dogaware.com/wdjhomemade3.html

I've used the raw feeding page a few times for reference, but this one is specifically for cooked food...

As Afro GI says, the main issue would be calcium... the suggestion of eggs is a good one!

Good luck in your search

Found this info on vitamins on this web site http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/k9health/wwwchc/Dietguide.html scroll down to the bottom and gives you info on vitamins and minerals :044: - but this is mainly based on a raw diet I think, but you can have a good look around the site
