Whenever we take Ruby & Ted out for a lead walk they always get really excited when they see other pooches and they immediately want to go and say hello to them. Ruby starts this high pitched yapping and then that starts Ted off and they pull like billy-o. If they get to meet the oncoming pooch they just end up having a good old sniff and there's a little bit of excited prancing but they are never nasty. However as they usually make such a comotion the oncoming pooch walker, more often than not, crosses the road to avoid us (which I can totally understand) but this makes R & T even more worked up and how I haven't been dragged under an oncoming bus is a bloomin' miracle! I long for a lovely calm walk with them but I just don't know how to stop them from reacting in this way. Has anyone got any tried and tested training tips I could use with them please? My little muscles can't cope with nearly 40 kilos of tugging pooch and my dream of being able to take both dogs out by myself are fast fading into a Scotch mist...Humph, I'm feeling really fed up with meself today. http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Sad/sad-012.gif

... Don,t lose faith honeypie, you,ll get there, takes time, but i,m sure they and you will have the longed for serene stroll soon xxxxx..that's the trouble though, I think I have lost faith - they're bloomin' 7yrs old now and it's just no fun anymore, the amount of times I get back in from a walk in tears is ridiculous.:062:

I'll go and see a trainer when I've funds to spare but thought I'd ask on here first just in case anyone else has experienced the same sort of problem.:044:

Caroline may be able to help. Do they tug on the lead all the time? Have you tried any sort of loose lead training?

Caroline may be able to help. Do they tug on the lead all the time? Have you tried any sort of loose lead training? They're slightly better on the way home - but they still go into full tug and yap mode if they see any fury friends. Have tried the stop/start, turn round and walk the other way loose lead training, have tried giving them treats when they are walking nicely, have tried cutting their walk short and taking them straight back home if they misbehave - it's clearly our fault we must be doing something wrong but just don't know what! They can do a nice loose lead walk round the back garden but as soon they get out the front door they forget everything. :058:
