yep you've guessed it Gunner is a pain!!!!! He even HOWLS (sounds like a flock of distressed geese) if Lilly is on the chaise and he can't get up to her.
He is quite contrary as he will take himself off to bed in the conservatory during the day but the minute you shut the door he starts getting upset.
I spoke to Theresa and she (and I) seem to think that it is because the woman who bought him (at 5-6 weeks old) left him for up to 9 hours on his own with no food or water for the first few days and then constantly took him every where.
We are managing at the moment but Lilly's first season ends next week any suggestions as to what i do for the 2-3 hours she out a day until he has had his jabs.
I reward him when we come in and I am waiting for a lull in the howling to go down and let him out....as I know if I let him out whilst this is going on he will never stop it.

No advice I'm afraid but good luck. Thomas sulks when I go out, he sits on the couch looking out the window (even if Nat is home with him  ) and even if I leave him treats he does'nt eat them till I come in. If he barks when I come in I ignore him till he stops and then give him a treat :D

seperation anxiety is the worst thing ever... i had to rehome my handsome funny little paddy due to it. we got him at 6 weeks and i'm sure it was that that was the root of the problem. alpha i do not envy you one tiny little bit. SA is soul destroying for dog and owner.
you really need to be cruel to be kind NOW. keep him seperated from lilly for short periods a few times a day. give him a puppy kong or something to occupy him but no matter how much he screams you have got to ignore it. you should also put lilly in a different room and play with him fora while too. its a lot of common sense that you just don't think of when your listening to the pitiful howling but don't give in as i did. in the end i was paying babysitters to babysit paddy if i had to go out without him.
you need to make absolutely sure that he doesn't become dependant on lilly's company.
remember NEVER GIVE IN. EVER EVER EVER! its not fair to you or him in the long run.
you could try a DAP diffuser or some rescue remedy. never worked for pads but they have worked on other dogs i think.

hee hee me too. I go to Tenerife tomorow and I don't want to leave Milo!!! :04:

I am no expert by a long shot, far from it infact but I was told that if a dog had separation anxiety not to make a fuss on leaving/returning (Milo used to be AWFUL (however he was just a baby and I don't think it was true SA) when we tried to leave him and he would SCREAM AND SCREAM AND SCREAM).When I came in and left I would ignore Milo for a couple of minutes so as to not make a point of me going/returning. So when I was going out I would shut us both in the kitchen, put the radio and do some washing up and then leave when he was settled and then when I returned I'd put the kettle on and open the back door, make sure he had a wee and then say hello. Seems to have worked.

Hope you can sort out little Gunner!
