It is tested on animals, is pushed by the vets because apparently they are taught about pet nutrition at vet school (by Hills) and contains derivatives and by-products. If I wanted to feed my dogs chicken @rses, feathers and beaks I would do so but not pay a fortune for the privilege!!
Rant over lol xxxxxxxxx
Nature diet is peddled as holistic so nothing but goodness if that is true.

I was so confused with some of the foods I went half and half, Coco would not eat tinned of any sort, and would leave dried after when I was only half way down a bag, he does need bone, Breeze would have eaten anything I'd but in front of her, she had only been fed on Bakers.

I've never gone down the route of the "posh" food. Robbie gets dried food and for last 6 months or so has been on Chapel Farm Country Champion food. I get it from a spaniel breeder up near Jean (60 or 70 miles away), its been developed for working dogs, its full of scottish salmon oil and he adores it - great for his coat and general health! (and not expensive (15kg bag is £12.50!!!)

i just contacted them to find out where my "local" supplier was!

I remember when Kali had pancreatitis and the vets wanted me to give her a 'prescription' food, low fat at £28 a smallish bag!! The fat content was something like 1 percent lower than what I was feeding her on already so after the first bag I didn't bother with another. I did wonder at the time how much cr@p was in the food because a lot of cr@p came back out :076: I suppose in the end it all boils down to what you are comfortable with. I didn't want anything tested on animals, anything with additives and I wanted as holistic a food as I could get. I have that........ although who knows if it is the right thing or not?

Thanks girls :075:
Meant to say that wee Drake needs moist food at the moment as it doesnt contain the same bulking ingredients which make him barf:017:

it is cheap dog food but its good more expensive stuff isnt always better IMHO
the chapel farm stuff suits my lot they are very healthy on it , poohs are firm and not over smelly, I like it. I mix it with burns active as I always fed the 3 burns before getting chapel farm.. I like burns as they dont use sh8te in their grub no battery hens.. and I get it from the local pet shop .. cheaper than online as well and I get 18 kgs for 15. so mixing it with the chapel farm makes it go further plus they get the salmon oil in that one as well. my dogs dont get wet food ever.. pepper poops it out faster than a speeding bullet so I stick to what suits them.
Ive heard loads of dogs with dodgy guts get a cheap dog food which name is escaping me..Chappie! Ive never fed the stuff so I cant say one way or another.
theres another food lot an off shoot of burns I believe.. dont know if its any better..

NatureDiet every time over science diet, for the same reasons that Sheryl mentioned. When I've forgotten to defrost something, or am having trouble getting raw, then my lot get Naturediet and do very well on it. It contains no s**te and is just meat, rice and veg :044:

Nature Diet is great, if you have an opened packet you're not using up quickly enough, you can slice it up and freeze it, then defrost it in the microwave. http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Cats_and_Dogs/walking-the-dog.gif

The Bete Noir had Nature diet as it was the only thing he would eat reliably, as a puppy, and now still has the grown up one for tea. Seems ok to me, and I doubt if his hunting behaviour is about hunger, as he doesn't eat what he catches and is a bit overweight! I can't blame the food!
