I live in a terraced house and so barking at night time is a bit of an issue, its because there are foxes outside crying and fighting and being such a pain.

He's barking at the moment and he wont listen when i tell him to be quiet, ive brought him up in my room coz then at least i know what hes doing and can try and distract him.

Help pleasee!!!

try putting some music on quietly in the background to try and distract him from the noises outside

You can't have a real go at him as he is only informing you that there is something outside

I live in a row of four houses with a total of 6 dogs in the row. Once one dog starts up at the foxes then it ends up with all 6 having a go. Problem is none of the dogs want to be the first to stop barking so it can go on for some time! I am sure the foxes come around just to start the dogs off. Music is a good idea - I leave the TV on if I go out in the evening and that seems to cut out the background noise.

he used to be good with music on, however he can still hear them so it doesnt make much difference :( hopefully no foxes tonight!

I know this is nicked from COL, but Mark used a tube of primula cheese for his dogs on bonfire night to take their attention away from the noise of the fireworks, could you do the same with marty?

He loves primula, i't's just at the moment hes barking and im going down to see him and it feels a bit like im giving him the attention he wants, want to teach him that barking isnt the best way to get my attention.

Will get a tube of primula in though for the next time

Horror of horrors, I use a rolled up newspaper when Rufus barks at the cat or hedgehogs outside as a last resort. His puppy trainer told me to use it. Just roll it up and he stops. Don't care if its classed as an aversive, as i do not touch him with it. It works for us.
