Last night I had the worst night sleep in ages. OH stayed over and my wee mammy gave up her bed for us, but Sam wanted to sleep in the room with us. So between him jumping up and down on the bed and padding about the room, I hardly slept. :062:

Right, so when I get my own place, I've decided he needs to have his own space to sleep in at night and not in my room. He's always been in the room with the ex and I, but I really need my own privacy and a decent nights sleep, so how do I go about settling him in his own wee place and get him to realise that this is where he sleeps now?

When he stayed over with QB, he slept in the kitchen with her 2 and was quite happy, but then he wont have the company of another 2 dogs.

Also, he wont sleep in a bed, so I don't have one for him and don't think there is any point in buying him one.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!!

What about a big crate? Gradually get him used to it, with short stays getting longer and longer in your room and then moving to another room? Crates have the advantage that they can't scrape doors and destroy wherever they are!

I tried him with a crate when I first got him and he absolutely hated it, so a crate isn't an option.

Thanks for the idea though. :044:

Buy another dog - they are always happy in the kitchen if there are 2...........or more!!!

yup those were my only two suggestions...crate or another dog :045: although how about a dog gate to keep him in/out of a room, but he can still see through and may not feel quite so locked out?

I would give the crate another go though.....get a comfy bed in there, and a t-shirt or something that smells of you, pop a really tasty stuffed kong in there and just let him get used to it. Don't shut him in there for a few days, but just let him get used to it being in the kitchen/bedroom and see how he gets on.

Good luck :044:

Thanks guys.

Think I'm going to get a baby gate and put him in the kitchen with a bed and top of mine and a stuffed kong and see how we get on.

Just need to get the house now!
